Louisiana Fishing License 2026: Saltwater Line, Senior Age 60, and Prices
Louisiana starts with the saltwater line, then separates Basic, Saltwater, resident senior, hook-and-line, crab, and charter-passenger products.
Louisiana saltwater-line decisions
- Saltwater line
- South of the line, fishing for or possessing saltwater fish generally means Basic plus Saltwater.
- Under 18
- Anglers under 18 are outside the ordinary paid Basic and Saltwater license rows.
- Resident age 60+
- Qualifying Louisiana residents age 60 and older use the Senior Hunting/Fishing License.
- Crab and charter products
- Recreational crab traps and charter-passenger trips have their own rows and should not be guessed from the base license alone.
Louisiana is a location-first license state. North of the saltwater line, a freshwater trip usually starts with the Basic Fishing License. South of the line, anglers fishing for or possessing saltwater fish generally need both Basic and Saltwater.
Age changes the purchase. Anglers under 18 do not use the ordinary paid Basic and Saltwater rows, while qualifying Louisiana residents age 60 and older use the Senior Hunting/Fishing License. Visitors should not apply that senior row to themselves.
Some Louisiana trips are not solved by Basic plus Saltwater alone. Cane-pole style hook-and-line fishing, charter-passenger products, recreational crab traps, and mobile proof in LA Wallet each have separate rules worth checking before the trip.

When does Louisiana require both Basic and Saltwater?
South of the saltwater line, anglers fishing for or possessing saltwater fish generally need both the Basic Fishing License and the Saltwater License.
Who can use the Louisiana $5 senior product?
The Senior Hunting/Fishing License is for qualifying Louisiana residents age 60 and older. A nonresident senior should use the nonresident rows instead.
Do Louisiana recreational crab traps follow the same answer as a rod-and-reel trip?
Not always. Recreational crab traps can add gear and location rules, especially below the saltwater line, so verify the crab-specific LDWF rule before setting traps.
